If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?

This question was hard, so I asked my son and he responded "Ingredients: Story of a Household”. To explain, our house is always full of food but my son complains there is nothing to eat but ingredients for other things and how it has negatively affected his life.

How long have you been practicing yoga? What made you want to become a yoga instructor?

I’ve been practicing Yoga for 24 years. I took my first class outdoors at Forest Park and fell in love. I’ve always been some kind of teacher so becoming a Yoga Instructor was a logical next step. I wanted to share my love of Yoga with others so they could feel as at-home in their bodies as I did. I talked about taking a teacher training for about a year before I did it and that was in 2013. I’ve been teaching ever since.

What yoga pose(s) makes you happy?

Utthita Hasta Padangustasana or Hand-to-Big-Toe makes me happy. It reminds me that I can do hard things. I struggled with it for a long time but now I can pop into it anytime. That makes me feel powerful and strong.

If you could go anywhere in the world for an all-expenses paid vacation, where would you go and what would you do?

I would return to Bali to explore more of the mainland and outlying islands. It is all so beautiful but also diverse. The culture is so different from ours and spirituality is a constant companion. The Balinese can make the mundane into a colorful celebration. And the stunning beaches, delicious healthy food, impressive temples and welcoming people are pretty great too.

What is the funniest place you have ever fallen asleep?

Maybe not the funniest but I once feel asleep while having my teeth cleaned.

What's a pet peeve that you would make illegal if you could?

My pet peeve is the sound of a spoon scraping and clanking against the bottom of a bowl. (You know who you are.) Actually, I would say its negativity. Some people can’t see the good things in life and are always seeking out the bad. I admit it takes effort to see things from a positive perspective but you and everyone around you will benefit. Not just mentally but physically as well. I’m not saying that I want people to put their head in the sand and ignore it when things aren’t right but “you are in charge of you”. You can choose how you respond to the world.

If you were to DJ your own life, what song or songs would you play in the background as you made your way through the day?

I don’t know much about DJing but my “fight song” that gets me energized and ready to go is Cannonball by the Breeders. I play it when I want to set a new weightlifting PR.

What is your favorite Knock-knock joke or silly/bad joke?

So, I am also a preschool teacher and my go-to joke is:

Knock Knock

Who’s there?

Boo

Boo who

Don’t cry, it’s only a joke

Gets a laugh from a 4-year-old every time.

Choose one famous person from history you want on your team during a zombie apocalypse.

Although not historical figures, I would want John Wick and Bear Grylls in my corner for their diverse skill sets to survive any apocalypse.

When you are alone in the car, do you sing out loud? If so, what’s your favorite “belt-it-out” song?

When I’m alone in the car I belt out Summertime Rolls from Jane’s Addiction. I’m not a good singer so I only sing alone in the car or in front of my Preschoolers because they don’t judge.

What is a current trend that you don’t understand?

There are so many trends I don’t understand, especially the fascination with 90s fashion. High waisted pleated jeans? Nope. So much of the 90s was ugly then, why wear it again?

Do you have any other hobbies other than practicing yoga?

Besides Yoga, in my free time I love cooking as a creative outlet, sewing, shopping for vintage Pyrex and taking care of my garden. I also read. A lot.
